How To Fix A Cracked Phone Screen Howtobasic

This is based on opinion. Please don't list it on a work's trope example list.

The internet has been responsible for bringing the world a visual medium where there is, for the most part, little to no censorship on any matter, including decency and taste.

This does, as you imagine, have some drawbacks.

NOTE: Weblinks Are Not Examples. Tropers are naturally curious, and having them stumble into links which scar them for life is not to everyone's tastes. Merely adding a link without a description is not enough for an example. Remember, even a description of what's behind the link is still scary on its own.

    Games

  • The game Vorago, though made with intent to scare, had some parts with over-the-top nightmareish-ness. Watch the walkthroughs here, here, here, and finally here. The part after the protagonist's husband gets stung by the monsters is especially scare-worthy.
  • Closure. This flash game is just plain freakin' unsettling. Especially when you start figuring out what it's about. It's a fun game in spite of it though, with a great gameplay mechanic.
  • Covetous, a retraux Flash game found on Newgrounds (WARNING: contains flashing lights). You start off as a single pixel, collecting other pixels in a level shaped like a man's body. As you collect more and more pixels and as the atonal background "music" drones on and on, your pixel-blob and the items it must collect grow and grow as your character slowly transforms into a parasitic twin, the man's face growing progressively less cheerful all the while. The between-round intermission texts become progressively more psychotic and demented; eventually even the music (such as it was) vanishes, replaced by a series of loud beeps. In the final level, you are instructed to mash the left and right arrow keys to help what is now a miniature Eldritch Abomination tear its host open from the inside and unleash itself upon the world. But you can also choose to let the man live; by waiting around on the final stage for long enough, the fetus-within-a-fetus realizes that two wrongs don't make a right and reduces itself to a quiet existence as a benign tumor.
  • Die Anstalt: Psychiatry for Mishandled Plush Toys. Everything that made Toy Story worthy of an entry on the Nightmare Fuel pages, but with severe mental disturbances. Take Dolly: After that Body Horror and Mushroom Samba, as well as the expression on the wolf, you will never look at reversible stuffed toys the same way again. And failing to help is even worse, because if you can't rescue everyone in one try (no second chance), it leads to Offscreen Inertia.
  • The sadly defunct Hotel 626. Start off with the fact that it was only possible to play it between 6pm and 6am. When you can play the game, it's basically you playing a guest trying to escape an incredibly freaky hotel which is full of dark and demonic forces. Among other things, you must play a music box to keep a scary baby asleep, figure out how to escape from a room which you are locked in with a mad man (after three tries, he unties himself, turns out the light, and game over), and get dragged down the hall by evil spirits. And when you do finally escape, you get a cool down moment where the guest sits in his car and starts to pull out of the driveway while calming music plays. Before looking in the rearview mirror and seeing a corpse-like creature in the back seat. In its original form, it also featured microphone, camera and phone integration, so you could get spooky calls from the hotel for hints... including a final call about two weeks after you finished the game.
    • Asylum 626! As with the hotel, it's only playable from 6pm to 6am and is more of a barely interactive short movie than a game. You do, however, have to make a decision on who to kill at the end. Fun Fun!
  • Get Lost allows you to explore the "unsafe and most assuredly haunted grounds" right away. The place is largely harmless, however...with the exception of one room, which contains an old woman's corpse in a chair and a portrait of a child nestled in the corner. Clicking on the corpse itself does nothing. However, if you click the portrait, the screen goes black, a close-up of the corpse appears for a split second, and you die. But it's never explained how or why you die, which somehow makes it ten times worse.
  • Monster Basement, a flash game series, has a bit of this, for examples, play it right here!
    • To be more specific, the entire premise is that your character heard your friend screaming, only to be knocked out and wake up in a creepy, dark basement. You're locked in and have to find a way out before the monster that abducted you comes back to eat you. There's one fun part where you go into a dark room and put a new light bulb into the socket, only to be terrified to see a Mud Monster coming after you in the now-lit room. You need to kill it with an axe. Oh, and when you finally get the key to the door? The phone rings. When you pick it up, the most creepy voice imaginable informs you that he'll be there soon to kill you, at which point the background music changes from its usual soft rhythm to being incredibly frantic. That's just in the first game. The second game has you and your friend trying to escape from the house itself, which has a zombified family living in it. Among various creepy delights, there's the man in the kitchen calmly ripping apart a dead monster for dinner and pictures in the living room that change in the dark. There's also one point where you have to watch a DVD. If you have a certain item, you can freeze time and see that one of the "pictures" is actually another zombie person, who was attempting to kill you from behind. If you don't freeze time, the game will end as you're killed from behind by a chainsaw. You won't even know what happened.
  • The Minoto Series is a bunch of cute point-and-click adventure games which are about as far from scary as you can get...until Present of Santa 2 . Go two screens right from the start and you come to a scene with a locker. Open the locker, and you're treated to a huge, writhing orange thing with bulging eyes, a gaping mouth and vestigial limbs constantly wiggling. It's actually just the Sun Boy from previous games who's gotten ridiculously fat and wedged inside the locker, but some of the Escape Games 24 players have gotten a nasty shock from it.
  • Alice Is Dead: The games' interpretation of the Cheshire Cat is a mad scientist's young daughter who suffered a Teleporter Accident by messing with her father's experiments and became fused with one of the cat test subjects. She's actually helpful, but she gives you at least one Jump Scare. Which isn't helped by her looking like this .
  • Curse of the Red Ninja is something of a spiritual successor to Get Lost, and is largely just an adventure game with an element of surreal humor. Just don't go into the dark forest and disturb the nest of sinister-looking birds, because a "protective Tengu mother" will appear right the hell out of nowhere and put a sudden and definitive end to both your fun and your ability to sleep.
  • Pokemon Crystal Kaizo may be a super hard mode romhack, but it has some serious fridge horror not present in the original, and a couple of legitimate horrors as well involving a certain glitch Pokemon...
  • Colour My Dreams is full of this. From shadowy demons who suddenly leap offscreen to taunting messages written in blood, it's quite the departure from the previous games. The ending is worth the fear, though.
  • Some people find the Submachine series disturbing because of the emptiness of the places you explore and the eerie soundtrack, and/or for the sense of being watched and not knowing who to trust. You find evidence that other people have been there before you, including notes left for you, but so far you only really have two-way communication with Murtaugh, and not very often at all... and he is far from trustworthy. Also, while many of the locations look like they've been abandoned for a very long time, some places look as though people were there recently and had to leave in a hurry — and every now and then you'll go someplace you've been before that has apparently been visited in your absence by someone or something who likes to break things.
    • From Submachine Network Exploration Experience :
      • "Report #173" at location 399 deals with the recurring themes of memory loss and disorientation, and suggests that the Submachine itself could be causing people to lose their memories, confusing and trapping them, and "harnessing their biomatter".
      • Location 712. The combination of the gun camera stills and the sounds — a faint, steady electronic tone, interrupted by quick bursts of hard-to-make-out human voices, beeping, and static — is very unsettling. Most of the soundtracks and background noises for the entire series are creepy, but this one in particular stands out.
  • Some of the "Cartoon Character - Subject" bootleg type flash games (like Elsa Foot Doctor) can accidentally fall into this, what with these games occasionally being graphic and cringeworthy (like using a scalpel and making the patient visibly bleed in surgery games), having creepily designed characters (like a pony with a huge human mouth) or just having an unnerving theme (one of the games revolves around maiming a baby at a hair salon), among other things. What's more is that these games were apparently intended for children. JonTron discusses these in his "Disney Bootlegs" video.
  • "Sad Satan", a certain "deep web" horror game built on the Terror Engine which gained plenty of exposure by gaming channels, such as SomeOrdinaryGamers. It plays out like a typical first-person horror game (much like Amnesia: The Dark Descent), except that the music is distorted, the visuals are monochromatic, and there's unexplained child figures and a woman screaming. But the game is most infamously known for displaying horrifying real images of people being mutilated — without warning — at certain intervals. Mutahar (SomeOrdinaryGamers' host) became physically ill from both the music and the aforementioned images, and he quickly removed the link to the game from the video description and reported it to the FBI for its illicit material. It came to the point where Mutahar's viewers became worried about his health, but luckily he posted a follow-up video confirming that he was alright.
  • Long ago on Nick.com, there used to be games called Clickamajigs which are just random games where you can click on something to make it happen. All of them were funny, like International Toe Stub, Gum Chewing Alien, Mr. Whatever, and many more. But there was one clickamajig that was scary: it was a Halloween game called Black Licorice. In this game, you can give kids caramel candies to trick or treaters with cute faces, but when you give them black licorice leftover from last Halloween, things… change. The kid then says "Black licorice?" Then the kid's face turns demonic, complete with horns, photoshopped eyes, and a demonic voice screaming "I DON'T LIKE BLACK LICORICE!" Then someone screams and slams the door on the kids. But even worse, you can send this to someone. This time, there's no black licorice, just caramel candies. Pretty harmless, right? Wrong! After you finish giving them candies, someone closes the door, then one of the kids peeks through the door flap and says "Oh yeah, almost forgot..." Then the kid breaks through the door and shouts this in a demonic tone: "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!" Geez, this was a kid's game! What were they thinking?
  • 1916 - Der Unbekannte Krieg by Kriegsgraben and Stormvogel is a first-person survival horror game about a soldier who is trying to escape from the trenches which are crawling with Raptors. The worst part? You don't have any weapons to fight them off! The only thing you can do is throw some severed limbs at them to slow them down.

    Interactive

  • "Maid of Horror", a small (barely) interactive movie in the Neurotically Yours series. It starts out promising enough as goth chick Germain, decked out in a maid's uniform, starts giving you head, then goes straight into HONF territory when she practically eats your dick. Obviously, NSFW.
  • In the defuncted "Take This Lollipop" websites, you click on the lollipop and allow the app like you you usually do with apps on Facebook. You then see a man on what looks like an old 90's computer scrolling through YOUR facebook page. Then he looks up your location on google maps. Eek!
  • This gem, called "Play With Me". Muto is surreal with tons of body-shock horror; this is a moving child's doll, deep in the Uncanny Valley, with interactive body-shock horror. You just click on an object from the doll's house and the doll picks it up and plays with it. Whatever you choose, you're in for a horrific time.
  • There's an interactive web animation about how chocolate bunnies are made and you're given the choice of something to throw at the poor helpless bunny. When you click on said item something brutal happens to the poor bunny (he even screams in agony) and knocks him out- he is then dipped into a vat of chocolate and comes out as a chocolate bunny. Also the Hamster in the Microwave as well as many other Joe Cartoon ones.
    • Although the hamster's snarky remarks and exaggerated southern accent somehow softened the blow.
  • "The Hospital" is a game in which you visit interactive photographs of an "abandoned hospital". Make sure your sound is turned on and that you wait a few moments in each room before exiting because almost everything starts up after at least 30 seconds of looking around and clicking has passed and don't be shy to mouseover and click anything of interest because some of the scenes actually are interactive.
  • The 99 rooms is an online gallery featuring the extremely creepy art of Berlin artist Kim Köster displayed in the rooms of a broken down, decaying factory. Clicking on the pictures will cause them to move, and a couple of the rooms contain "jump scares" that will make you hit the ceiling. Not something to be viewed alone in a darkened room at night.
  • Watch and keep clicking "Next". It starts with a funny little animation of someone removing their flash drive before the computer says it's safe. Then it gets corrupted. Then the world gets corrupted.
  • Screamers, innocuous-looking websites that lull a casual viewer into a false sense of security by offering a game or some other activity which requires their concentration and then, Bam! Instant picture of a possessed Linda Blair with loud accompanying "train whistle". The internet equivalent of sneaking up behind someone with a scary mask and tapping them on the shoulder.
    • An example of this is "Find the ghost of Elvis in this picture", in which you have to try and spot the ghost of deceased rock icon Elvis Presley, his beautiful singing voice echoing in the background while you look around for him...and then all of a sudden, this monstrous ghoul thing appears on screen.
    • As parodied in one iCarly online video.

Spencer: Okay, you may not believe this, but my robot can actually cry. Here, look into its eyes.
      (camera moves in closer)
Spencer: Now just keep looking. You'll see the tears in about 15 seconds.
      (About 5 seconds later...)
Spencer: RAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Heh... sorry if that scared you, but that's kind of the point.

    • Even Lego gets in on the act - on the BIONICLE Piraka website, an innocuous join-the-dots routine flashes and roars when you get to the eleventh dot.
  • There's this educational website that has food expire whenever you roll over it—— and when you roll over some of it, the waiter turns into The Grim Reaper.

    Memes

  • Screamers. Yeah, most are pretty harmless and simple (like the famous Scary Maze Game). Then you stumble across one that's a mix of gorn, mind rape and horror. It's worse if you come across one randomly on YouTube in the related videos section. If you're looking through the related for Fenton the dog or even 'try to watch this without laughing!'.
  • Z҉A҉L҉G҉O̚̕̚
    • I w͜ill ̕sin̶g th̷e ̷s̡Ãng͝ ̸t́h̸aţ e͏nd͜s͞ the e̷ar͘th.̨ H͔̃̌ͥe̴͚ ̿ͩ̿́͏̝͉̫͇w̲͔̽h̶̲͉͈̣̬ő̴̘ ̿ͩ̿́͏̝͉̫W̸̶̷ā̜̉͌́͂ͫ̉͛͟i̒̄̋̀͏̪ţ̗̱̲̖͎̪̔̋s͆́͂̑͐̾҉̼ ̞B̸̡̢̫e͚̺̘̬̲͇̘̜̍ͫḩ̦̝i̒̄̋̀͏̪̩n̡̽̈̈́dͩ͗͋ ̵̠T̷̢̟̳h̷̖̱̖̟̘̹́ͭe͊ͤͦͯ̈́̈͘҉̦̤ ͎̬̱̮͍̩͕̉W̶͙͚̬̠̩͈̊āͦ͂̾̓ͪ͏͇̫̖͉l͙̯͙̝̰͓͔̓l̫̜.̵̳
      • For those who are looking for actual information, Zalgo is a meme based around a fictional Eldritch Abomination representing decay and chaos through the use of scrambled images and corrupted characters similar to the above. The creepy thing about Zalgo mythology is that it does exist simply because people act like it exists. The moment you mention its name, it appears, in the form of everyone around you saying his words in his voice. Every time he is mentioned. He can't do anything to you if you don't want him to. He exists because you want him to exist. And there's nothing you can do about it.
      • The other creepy thing is that Zalgo's influence on people is generally rendered as Eye Scream, usually in the form of blood or some other discharge from the eyes.
  • The Shadowlurker, a.k.a Horrifying House Guest, Never Alone or Uninvited Guest, a being that could best be described as a mix between troll face and Kayako from Ju On / The Grudge.
    • "I WILL RIDE A BICYCLE OF NIGHTMARES INTO YOUR ASSHOLE."
  • The numerous online references to Brian Peppers.
  • Everybody knows of Suiseiseki because of 'DESU DESU DESU', yes? Well, another Suiseiseki-based meme has been unleashed onto the internet — the super-deformed (emphasis on the deformed) Jissouseki, which was introduced onto 2ch to much revulsion... until the frequenters started drawing fanart of the little things crapping on themselves and getting tortured in the most horrific ways possible. It's enough to make your skin crawl. DO NOT look for it if you've got an extremely weak stomach.
    • Related to this phenomenon are the yukkuris — blobby, deformed heads of Touhou Project characters that implore you to "TAKE IT EASY!" Unfortunately, for every cute yukkuri fanart on the internet, there's always one where the poor things are tortured and killed, among other atrocities. This is partly justified by the fact that Fanon has declared that they're filled with bean paste and not blood, but still...
  • In 2012, stories and art surrounding Fluffy Ponies began to arise, who are basically a Western equivalent to Jissouseki and Yukkuris. They are depicted as genetically-engineered "bio-toy" pets that are fully sentient and speak in "baby talk" English. Due to them not having any law protections because of them not being natural animals, they are frequently shown getting subjected to some of the most gruesome and nausea-inducing forms of torture and death that are beyond what one can imagine. As with Jissouseki, prepare yourself accordingly if you intend to look up anything relating to it.
  • Laina the Overly Attached Girlfriend. Just the Slasher Smile plus Creepy Blue Eyes are enough for a hell of a Nightmare Face, and add some Clingy Jealous Girl \ Yandere content...
  • And, of course, there's always Candle Jack. .... Oh Cr- ap.
  • While much newer then most of the other examples in this page, Obunga definitely deserves a mention. The image is essentially a image of Barack Obama photoshopped to look like the roach creatures from TerraforMARS, Nightmare Face abound. And if that wasn't bad enough for you, it talks...
  • "Void Memes", which practically thrive on the Nightmare Face trope. Basically they are video remixes similar to Zalgo and screamer memes where the subject of the video is edited into whatever Eldritch Abomination the editor can conjured up, as ominous music and/or Ear Rape plays over it. While mostly Played for Laughs, a lot of them can be downright creepy. Here's a compilation of them.
  • "Let me hear your war cry". An edited clip of a scene from Full Metal Jacket with Creepy Doll faces pasted onto the character's original faces with the sound of two people yelling and getting increasingly higher pitched.
  • The classic Rage Comics faces have gained a revival around the year 2020, but the mental toll the year took on people definitely shows in exactly how it happened. The result was Trollge, a nightmarish take on the step-by-step format of certain Trollface comics that generally end in plenty of Body Horror, Nightmare Faces, or even The End of the World as We Know It. For those who don't plan on sleeping, here's a complete list of "incidents" involved with Trollge.

    Music/Remixes

  • "The Device Has Been Modified", a remix of dialogue from Portal. It makes everything so damn creepy, especially at the end. Especially since if you forget and leave it on, a full ten seconds or so of silence after the "end," a Turret whispers "Are you still there?" with demonic reverb.
    • The download of the song has the Turret speak much sooner after GLaDOS says "goodbye," so the creepiness of it is lessened a little. Not by much, though.
    • "Please proceed to android hell." Cue Rage Sphere.
  • "The Smote's Lullaby" is a fan-song for Hedone High. Just... Just the little kid weeping at the end... Damn.
  • This song parody by someone named after a line from Michael Jackson's song "Smooth Criminal" is a nightmarish attempt at a song about Tonight Show host Jay Leno- the song coming off as more of an Alice Cooper-like vibe to it and with the portrayal of Jay being more like Heath Ledger's Joker crossed with Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd. It makes the whole thing look more like a horror novel than a song.
  • "Silent Bonk". It is a testament to how creepy Silent Hill music is that even having the Scout from Team Fortress 2 "bonk" over it fails to blunt the fear factor.
    • On that note, "One-Winged Scout" reveals exactly how creepy the Scout's cries when he is set on fire are.
  • Some YouTube user thought it was a fun idea to upload a video of Lady Gaga's Bad Romance in G Major!
  • The BMS of Fighters composer LeaF and video producer Optie sometimes team up to produce some seriously disturbing songs and music videos:
    • "MopeMope" seems like a saccharine jingle for toddlers at first, but it soon takes a turn for the worse when the music suddenly glitches out, replaced by a hellish droning noise. It quickly reverts back for a second, but it doesn't take long at all for Hell to return, this time with an ominous, horrific version of the tune. Things only go further downhill from there as the music devolves into what can only be described as nightmares given life. The extended version isn't much better, even with a silly rock remix of the tune starting it.
    • The same partnership between LeaF and Optie brings us "MARENOL". Explicitly labeled as R-18G (which in Japanese culture means not suitable for minors and it has extremely gory content). Rendered in a pixel style, the video features all manners of creepy, bloody imagery, like faceless women suddenly having holes in their faces, one of them being shackled and then torn to shreds by a series of gears, and a woman hung (presumably) dead on a noose before falling onto a giant spike and releasing gallons of blood.

    Stories

  • This story about how a little girl saw a horrifying demon in her window that had blood-dripping fangs. You may never hear Rick Springfeild's "Hole In My Heart" the same way again after reading this story. From a website purporting to contain true ghost stories.
  • Sailor Nothing: Ami. Damn, even the mental image gives nightmares. A villain who seeks to refine evil as an artform abducts her, physically and mentally breaks her, and then presents her as his masterpiece to the rest of the cast.
    • Most of Sailor Nothing. Good luck enjoying Sailor Moon now you over-optimistic fools.
  • Sam Hughes' Gorge is about humans happening upon a planet that happens to be a perfect sphere with no atmosphere. Kinetic probes find that the planet's substance is mostly magnesium. They send a drone down, and lose contact immediately. And with another. And another. Then they realize the planet was destroyed by a Grey Goo scenario. Then the planet starts launching rockets. The story ends with the flagship running for Earth, while all the other survey ships are consumed behind them, the nanoships expanding in all directions. The fastest human ship will take six months to reach earth, and the narration points out the nanomachines hadn't learned about spaceflight, not until they sent the drones down.
  • The Ms. Scribe Story is a perfect example of the depths of depravity to which people will sink in the name of fandom involvement—and how rewarding such unconscionable actions can be. The story's finale is even worse: by then, you learn what sort of person the real Ms. Scribe is.
  • Many transformation and mind control stories can be this, even more so with a little Fridge Logic
    • Breasts of the Magi, for example, takes place in a world where the World of Fae re-synced with this world after a few hundred years absence. almost all of the Fae happen to look like really hot women. They tend to have very high libidos; and their standard method of proposing sex with a man is to corner them, kiss them, and stick their hand down their pants. That's right, it's sexual assault! This could be standard for fantasies, but later on in the story, some guy hides an aerosol can that causes breast growth and high libido in the girls' locker room. Not only does it cause date rape, but it turns the victims' effectively bisexual, and changes their bodies. Two "minor wish" spells combine in such a way as to cause the male lead to change shape repeatedly over several hours, including one which gives birth to several rapidly maturing kittens, and another which itself can cause alterations in others and make an entire bookstore a Zone of Arousal, so to speak, just by writing runes with a magic marker. And to top off the Unfortunate Implications sundae, it is twice mentioned how these events won't hurt anyone. Maybe a few pregnancies, but nothing serious.
    • Latex Bloom is about latex plant symbionts that invade womens'...lower bits, and keep them in a constant state of sexual excitement and orgasm. They can also act as pseudopenises. That's weird enough, but the protagonist ends up with one, then spends several weeks with her infected cousin and infected botanist aunt, whose greenhouse spawned the parasites in the first place. Infected gradually get better bodies, and have an enhanced libido and very compelling scent. The trio later progress from just incest to actively trying to infect people with these parasites, and the protagonist rapes a random girl in public through use of her tentacle (and said girl likes it). And they want to take over the world with it. Well, they're under the influence of the parasite, right? Well, no; the aunt specifically points out that all the parasite does is make them feel good, and everything they've been doing has been done of their own free will. Which means that either the parasite makes them think they're still free, or it's basically turned them into sociopaths without using mind control.
    • The "New Found Form" series involves a series of artifacts that turns people into and gives them the power to transform others into hypersexed furries, usually hermaphrodites. This allows for several interesting forms, including two people fusing into a bear-lizard hybrid, and a dinosaur-spider hybrid. The infection can be spread through nearly anything, including dairy products and the Internet.
  • An author with the online handle WyldBlue has some conjoinment horror stories, such as "Tongue-Tied," in which a woman woke up in a tiny room with her tongue fused to another woman's tongue. Neither of the women felt any urge to eat or sleep...and so they stayed, stuck in that tiny room without an exit, for what seems like forever.
    • The author of that story remarked that he had no good ending for it. Someone else came up with one here, in which the latest victim severs their conjoined spinal cord with a knife, killing them both to prevent the cycle from repeating.
  • Ted's Caving Story Even with the misspellings and early internet aesthetic, it's still known to be very, very eerie.
  • John Dies at the End has plenty of examples, but in one of the earliest instances, there were tiny little white worms of supernatural origin. They could fly through the air and drill their way into a person's skin. Once inside a host's soft tissues, a single one could swiftly convert the body mass into a swarm, exploding out at any time. A swarm could infest a person's entire body, turning them into a mind-controlled meat puppet that can choose to act indistinguishably from the original person. Each worm has intelligence comparable to that of a human, and they also hate you so much that just being in the same room as them can cause you physical pain. Despite this, the book is quite funny.
  • In Cradleland, the ba'thulaz eat brains of living creatures. And no, they do not kill them before eating them, but use the razor-sharp teeth in their lamprey-like mouths to cut open the skull and extract the brain while the organism is still alive. And they prefer the brains of sapient organisms- like humans.
  • Cor has written hundreds of vignettes and short stories about invisible, amorphous, sociopathic tickle monsters and their victims. The stories range from Black Comedy, Porn and more often than not veer into outright horror. For anyone ticklish enough to be tortured by it this is about as scary as it gets. Here's a link.
  • Shadow Unit: the woman who makes people choke to death on their tongues, the man who can walk unseen in front of a camera and erase himself from human memory, the woman who can kill you at a distance through sheer freakish bad luck — and then there's William Villette, a serial rapist whose power is influencing people's emotions; some of his victims, years later, still believe that they deserved what he did to them, and that's only the backstory to what he does to Chaz, who incidentally happens to be his son. By his sister. Who he sexually assaulted before the anomaly took him over. Two sentences: "It's okay, baby. I just have to let the wings come out." (And that's just the major plot points — some of the cases mentioned in passing are... yeah.)
  • The Dionaea House Something along the lines of The Blair Witch Project meets House of Leaves, this 4 part web-based story will definitely make you uneasy of scary noises in your house. Crowning Moments of Scary goes to Mark's texts when he finds the second house, each getting faster and shorter culminating in " THE DOOR IS OPEN", and Danielle's blog and her experience with the bathtub. red rover red rover let Jenny come over.
  • The Shape of the Nightmare to Come. A fan created setting based in the Warhammer 40k universe, except it's the Fifty-first millennium instead of the Forty-first. And everything went to hell. Certain examples include the account of the Tersis's voyage into the Deep Warp, the Blood Angels giving into the blood thirst completely, the New Devourer, the Ophilim Kiasoz, and most notably, the Star Father. Imagine the Emperor ascended to godhood the day he died and decided the best way to protect humanity is to dominate it utterly, mind, soul, and flesh.
  • Ursula Vernon's Book of the Gear.
  • This short story, whilst not being as downright terrifying as some of the other things on here, may put you off of fried eggs for a while.
  • The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing, the Let's Play of Animal Crossing. With such fun things as statues that slowly turn you into animals, and a woman luring kids to an abandoned island so that she can take away their body parts and put them on her own body.
    • "Diary of an Animal Crossing Psycho" is perhaps even more squicky.
  • Meticulous is a short story that seems simple enough: a man interacting with his cleaning lady. But there's this overlying feeling that something's not quite right, and when she asks him to unlock the attic...
  • Whateley Universe: Jade Sinclair is a trans girl who should have been a Gender Bender, but due to her peculiar mutation, could not grow past the age of eleven, nor be altered surgically. Fortunately, she managed to fix this through Applied Phlebotinum, transforming into a fifteen year old girl in a matter of hours. Unfortunately, she manages to catch the Idiot Ball, and agrees to undertake a magical ceremony run by someone who is planning to sacrifice her soul to a demon. Because of a link she has to her roommate Tennyo, she survives, but reverts back to male form, with the side effect that she now has high-level regeneration. When she realizes she is male again, she snaps, and tries repeatedly tries to hack off her male genitals, which regenerate in a few minutes each time. She goes on doing this for several hours, until she passes out from blood loss despite the regeneration.
  • Dogscape . Imagine if everything on Earth except humans turned into dogs (or just one extremely mutated and deformed planet-sized dog). Including the ground. This sounds silly, but the story explores the effects this would have on humanity extremely well. For example, there are "trees" from which "puppyfruits" grow, which, as you may have guessed, are basically live puppies which the humans eat alive to survive. As the centuries pass, humanity becomes worse and worse due to the hostility of the world. If you want to see Body Horror applied to the entire planet, read this.
  • Escalation , a novella about a workplace prank war that... escalates into all-out armed warfare. The most terrifying part is it's never explained why the protagonist and Tammy are the only ones in the office who weren't driven to homicidal madness, or why the others succumbed to it.
  • This story, commonly referred to as "Follow the Arrows", which was posted to an otherwise humorous thread on Reddit by creative writer flossdaily. It's about a college student who sees some arrows graffitied in a bathroom and gets his friends and a blacklight to find out where they go. It turns out it's a trap set by a deranged serial killer, and it is really disturbing to read. Worse, it's posted in a thread that was meant for true stories, and is never actually stated to be fictional (although it's clear from the author's other work as well as the fact that the narrator dies in the bad ending).
  • The creator of Trader Lydia has made a few ongoing gamebook-style stories since 2013. While a lot of the protagonists' ultimate fates are happy, sad, or comedic, there are also many nightmarish endings, not unlike actual gamebooks:
    • Another Princess Story : Roya can end up suffering various forms of And I Must Scream (e.g. turned into a statue, doll, pumpkin, scarecrow, or inanimate suit of armor) and Body Horror (e.g. turned into many different creatures, fused into a stolen guard uniform). There's also getting sucked dry by a vampire and having her head and life stolen by a headless rider. One ending is her being corrupted by her mother and becoming an Evil Overlord, which is a positive ending for her, but not so much for everyone else.
    • Eliza and Beth don't have it much better; one delightful end is going into a cave and never finding their way out, eventually becoming ghosts wandering for eternity. Another is getting turned into living miniature dolls, resulting in them being smashed offscreen by a possessed Roya doll who flashes one doozy of a Nightmare Face and reassembles their corpses as a lifeless mix of the two a la Sid Phillips, being hunted by a sinister marionette, or used as food to create mimics.
    • Cyber Road : Depending on your choices, Ashley and Cara can likewise experience bouts of Body Horror and Transformation Horror, in this case, the unexpected results of genetic or mechanical augmentation. There's also the path where Ashley's body is jacked by the Affably Evil Computer Virus Alice, who is shown in detail taking over the poor girl's life and role as the protagonist, Otto Octavius-style, though Alice's cutesy design and childlike demeanor lessen it a bit.

    Videos: Animated

  • Banjo Gyro, an animated short film apparently about fast food employees who fight demons. Except the whole thing is done in nauseated, sickly colors with distorted vocals and a constant throbbing sound. As one YouTube comment describes it: "This is what a fever dream feels like. This is what hell looks like. This is what nightmares are made of."
  • Here's a link to a creepy Yuru Yuri video, complete with nightmare faces! And here's its sequel, Akarin's funeral. Thank goodness??
  • Tricky from Madness Combat. This Monster Clown JUST. WON'T. DIE. Ever.
  • The ending of this animation.
  • If you thought Salad Fingers was scary, it's only the tip of the iceberg. David Firth's entire output [1] is pure, unadultered Nightmare Fuel.
  • This YouTube video. An entire collection of horror scenes from various games and anime.
  • The first episode of GMod Idiot Box has a moment you probably should not watch late at night with the lights off.
  • Ah, a short student-film. It follows a young girl who somehow falls into a strange world while eating a bowl of alphabet soup...At first it's not too bad, though a bit ominous. The ground is slightly-soft and cracked, the sky is a brownish color, and look! Letters are floating by! A...H...A...H...The girl decides to follow the letters back to see where they're coming from and... it gets worse.
  • This Lasagna Cat video. It's pretty funny until the end, when the cartilage in Garfield's nose deflates, and his eyes grow so big that they fall off his face and roll on the table, leaving two disturbing empty sockets on his face. Shudder... The fact that it's set to "Eyes Without A Face" did not help. The video ends with the same creepy image of Jim Davis all the videos end with...only now his eyes are moving...
    • The Sex Survey Results video is largely built around a formula — a Garfield character (it cycles through Jon, Garfield, and Odie) is sitting in a chair reading a newspaper when they hear a knock on the door. The character then engages in a "Knock Knock" Joke with a mannequin, only instead of a pun, the punchline is the number of sexual encounters the mannequin had. A Laugh Track occurs, and the camera pans out to reveal that what we just saw is a newspaper strip read by the next character in the cycle, all set to "A Whiff of Perfume" by Werner Tautz. After 999 iterations of the same gag, with rare deviations, at the 4:33:50 mark of the video, Jon gets one last visitor... himself (in a Call-Back to the promotion for the survey itself). Instead of the usual laugh track and pullback, the two Jons just stare at each other until the first one dismisses his doppelganger and shuts the door on him, cueing a dark and disturbing Gainax Ending revolving around Jim Davis, death, and rebirth.
  • An Arbuckle Thanksgiving is a digital edit of the Garfield's Thanskgiving special and completely removes Garfield. For most of the video, it's pretty silly and doesn't have anything offensive. That is, until Jon sits down to eat...
  • Story from North America. A pencil-drawn music video about a father trying to teach his son why you shouldn't kill spiders. Nightmarish moments include the father squishing one of the giant spider's eggs, the father caressing one of the spider's hairy legs, the father's nipples, and...let's just say that the father in general is horrifying.
  • Ladies and gentlemen, Malice in Wonderland! Be warned as it is EXTREMELY NSFW!
  • This trippy, surreal animation right out of Estonia (the very first shot marks it as made-in-Tallinn).
  • The darker works of Jeremy Lokken definitely count, specifically Coffee Break and The Ugly Duck
  • Did you have any deep-sea nightmares recently? If so, DO NOT LOOK. The author of this also made a Pokemon-like monster collection called "Mortasheen" (a horse plague) which range from human-like zombies to altered animals, sentient objects and even puddles with multiple heads. Almost all of them (except the "mistake" class) have pain-inducing or downright lethal powers, of course.
  • This trailer for a theoretical 28 Months Later film, which combines clips from various anime series and video games to sound bites from the films to truly terrifying effect.
  • This extremely trippy animation about cows, complete with some very creepy music.
    • The creator of that video, Birmingham-based animator Cyriak Harris specialises in this sort of thing. If memory arecalls correctly, he provided the trippy backgrounds in The Nostalgia Critic's Top 11 Mindfucks. "Watch them at your own risk", indeed.
  • Another Cyriak example: there's one website where they have "Live webcam from inside a particle accelerator". There's a few minutes of normal footage that makes you think it's real, then alarms go off and and a black hole appears and eats the camera, the lab and (presumably) the world. Eeek!
  • CHAINSAW MAID is a disturbing claymation project. Seeing the red-haired woman vomit out blood and all her internal organs and then collapse face down into them, then after a few moments sit back up with a creepy blank stare and make a terrifying noise.
  • Many of Film Cow's Cartoons. Charlie the Unicorn's already been mentioned, but that's just scratching the surface-their other cartoons include sadistic children's show mascots, man-eating Llamas, John McCain's hallucinations, Ferrets who sing joyfully about the Holocaust and murder...and it's all played for laughs.
  • Kikia. Similar to the "Find the ghost of Elvis" example above, this famous Flash movie has a very soft Japanese song playing, with a cute picture of a relaxing stick figure... and then a horrible ghost face from Fatal Frame pops up with a bloodcurdling scream from nowhere.
    • There's a similar one on the Tales From The Crypt website. It has an average photo of an ice cream man in his truck, with the instructions to look closer. When you do look closely at it- the Crypt Keeper appears on the screen cackling and the words The Crypt Keeper fooled you also appear.
    • This one is particularly cruel, as the page is actually a very interesting read, concerning the urban legend of Polybius. Of course, you can go to wikipedia and get much of the same info.
  • This version of "You Should Drink Cucumber Beer", especially when the usual kappa tears a person's head off by the neck.
  • Lilium. Merging horror, Body Horror, and Soundtrack Dissonance in one convenient package! (NOT for the faint of heart. Or for the pregnant. Or... You get the idea.)
  • Many Shmorky animations on Something Awful are LOADED with this kind of stuff. One of his animations is a series of AVGN parodies called "Furious Famicom Faggot". The series progresses with the titular character becoming more and more insane, having bizzare hallucinations and freaking out until finally, in the last episode he dies of a brain tumor.
  • Weebl's original Badger Badger Badger was funny and kinda cute. The sequel however is truly terrifying.
  • This video (has flashing lights) is when colourful and garish turns into horrible and pants-wetting. Also counts as Mind Screw.
  • Dining Room or There is Nothing. What the hell is going on?
  • This Tails Doll Short. OH DEAR GOD NO.
    • For those of you who are into that kind of thing, here is a link to the results of searching for Tails Doll groups on DeviantArt. [2]
    • Tails Doll is an interesting example as he was infamous for this type of thing since before even Slenderman existed and before Archie started to parody his infamy. He has a ridiculous amount of creepy fanart of all kinds dedicated to him due the simple fact that he is a Creepy Doll straight out the Uncanny Valley with literally no explanation for his existence.
  • This video by a Buenos Aires Artist by the name of BLU contains enough Body Horror factor to be 98% horror!
  • The Wanky Shit Demon. Talk about Nausea Fuel. You may not want to eat chocolate cake and/or white frosting for a while after seeing this...
    • From the same creator, When Clive Was Alive .
  • From There she is!!, of all things. During Step 4 Nabi has a brief Imagine Spot after seeing Nabi attacked by Interspecies Romance protesters. It lasts for all of two seconds, but basically it's... Doki getting more and more beat up, almost as if she's DISINTEGRATING. While she's smiling.
  • Bear Bear. Dear lord that teddy bear with the mismatched eyes is all woobieish and cute until it decides that its kid doesn't love him anymore and tries to kill him with the evilest, most insane Slasher Smile ever animated into a stuffed animal. The red paint on the all black and white background doesn't and increasingly distorted scratched-up inner dialogue help either.
  • IT LIVES, people. IT LIVES.
  • There's also this monstrosity. Oh sure, it starts out cute, but just wait....
  • Alfred's Playhouse, by the ever delightful Emily Youcis. Enjoy.
  • The Pier. In this delightful student project, a humanoid bird-like creature goes fishing on an old pier. From underneath the pier, a quadrupedal creature follows the bird-creature unseen. Suffice it to say that the bird-creature's fishing trip does not end well at all. Let this be a lesson to us all: always chew your food carefully.
  • "By accident!". It's a student film featuring CGI people from the Uncanny Valley hanging out. The horror gets more and more potent when one of the characters starts seeing slasher smiles on the people around him.
  • ''Craziest'', a short film about a girl who starts looking for patterns and meaning in the game of Scrabble in her quest to get the "triple-triple". What starts off as innocent enthusiasm becomes almost cult-like obsession- the Ju
    • I AM NOT INSANE. I HAVE A IQ POINT 67, AND I FIGURED THIS OUT. I'M NOT USING, NOR HAVE I EVER USED DRUGS. I KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON, I KNOW MY RIGHTS.
  • If you tropers think that the first original Chainsaw Maid was bad... wait till you get a load of "this". Not only did leehardcastle crafted that but his other collection of "clayanimations" can be unnerving to some as well (depending on what you come across). To add a bit more nightmare fuel to the fire. Here's these last two shorts: 1. "This" and "This". You have been warned!
  • When Justin Bieber hating Crossed the Lines Twice. Baby, baby, oooow
  • When you eat your sweets, be sure you try, to limit your servings, or you'll (Cue demonic face) DDDIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
  • Follow the Sun - Intermission Video. You'll definitely being going on a diet after you watch it. Basically Food Porn gone horribly wrong.
  • Ladies and gentlemen, Meet The Mario Head. The head carving out a path of destruction through a city and killing other cartoon characters is bad enough, but then you see what's going on inside the thing's mind while it does this...
  • Jack Skellington summoning Satan and an army of demonic hellbeasts to conquer Christmas in Skellington's Revenge.
    • Jack's drug trip from the same video was pretty freaky too.
  • Breadheads: Normally something like this would simply be Narm, yet it somehow manages to be extremely even if it's about people's heads turning into loafs of bread.
  • This video will never make you see Shrek the same way again.
    • If you thought THAT was scary, wait until you watch THIS! Oh god, the part with Donkey.
  • It's time to have some fun with Uncle Samsonite. It may start out silly, but the ending...
    • The guy who made the original is currently doing an ongoing series about Uncle Samsonite. While some moments are silly, the series is rife with Adult Fear
  • Alternate History Hub's video "What if the Cold War Went Nuclear?" is easily his most horrifying video. Not only due to the content of it and how close we came to it actually happening had it not been for Stanislov Petrov's instinct, but just the general feel of the video. It plays like as if on a glitchy, 80s supercomputer. At around four minutes in, the video plays nuclear bomb sirens and alarms as it talks about millions of people dying.
  • Man Spaghetti, a surreal horror animation about a baby who gets shot in the face and then begins to grow animal heads from each one of his wounds. Think that's not horrifying enough? Just listen to the sounds it makes.
  • "The Aelita Alien", an unsettling 2009 Code Lyoko fan video. It depicts Aelita's flashbacks of her and her father escaping the men in black and fleeing to Lyoko. Inexplicably layered above the video clips are images of a lunar eclipse and Aelita as a blue alien, all set to weird, distorted sound effects. What's worse is the ending, which seems to imply that both the "real" Aelita and her alien version have merged as one.

    Videos: Live Action

  • The ending of "'LYMPIC GAMES. 'LYMPIC GAMES." where Jack runs into the green screen and it suddenly cuts to his bloody face screaming at the viewer. Definitely a Jump Scare.
  • I HEARD YOU WERE DOING THE HAND THING Two puppet things deep into Uncanny Valley engage in a practice called the "Hand Thing". Broken Record and plenty of creepy music abound.
    • Just watch any video on that channel. They're all that creepy!
  • Blank Room Soup. Just...Blank Room Soup. It's a video of a shirtless man with his eyes censored, eating...something with an oversized spoon, with these guys slowly walking up to him and stroking his back, while he starts crying. Want to feel even more freaked out? It's allegedly a video from the deep web. There's also all sorts of rumors about it, like that the stuff the guy is eating is his legs, or his wife.
  • Try to find a word to describe this!. It's just a nature documentary showing parasitic wasps emerging from their hosts.
  • The Wotaken... An abomination of a video series. It features a nude man wearing a freaky horse mask, dancing around as he does assorted otherwise normal activities. NSFW.
  • Follow Me. This video has a vintage blur effect, garbled voices, and someone wearing the same sort of mask as Batman's Scarecrow.
  • The videos of Harrison Callifrax. Being a teenage goth with no budget, the scares are pretty well done, and often comical. So just if you thought you were getting any sleep tonight, there's a fluffy white cat gnawing on somebody's flesh, a shadowy figure with burning eyes finishing a video, and even, well, the self-recognised magnum opus of disturbing (see below).
  • Depresso: Everything Else. Being a Harrison Callifrax video, it was always going to be heavy on dark humour, but this one is, as even stated by him, the most disturbing video he's ever created. It starts off calm, with a man drinking a cup of an unknown substance, but suddenly everything turns into a black-and-white, slowly moving piece, with a certain familiar creepy backwards tune, with disturbingly slow and depressing imagery, all heading towards a door, before it slowly opens. The screen fades to black, and everything is silent. Then we hear a gunshot.
    • Even more disturbing, the following wet footsteps imply it's not a suicide...
  • This Neil Cicierega video which features parasitic kittens, puppies, and one lobster who all eat your bone marrow from the inside out. It does not end well for the unlucky carrier.

Soon the eggs we laid in Ryan's urethra will hatch!

    • Though it's ultimately a humorous "Shaggy Dog" Story, "The Dogs" is pretty tense (up until the whole thing turns out to have been building up to a Baha Men reference). Actually, even when the punchline has been revealed, the closeups of his flashlight-illuminated, grimacing face are pretty unnerving.
  • Are you afraid of clowns? Well this will make you fear them even more. A toy clown crawls towards a child trying to get to sleep. Vaugely freaky until the grand finale... The kid, who's pulled the covers over his face, looks back at the clown doll and it's become a real clown with blood around the mouth and stuff... Not only that, but after the end of the video, the toy, with its creepy Slasher Smile, stares at you for a full minute.
  • The Wyoming Incident. It was part of a goon-made ARG, but Jesus Christ this is unsettling to watch.
  • No Through Road. The sign... The masked dude... The eerie music loop...
  • A rather unknown video reviewer named Jacob Rudduck once did a review of Uninvited. First reaction with the Southern Belle was slightly funny. But the ending... If you think The Dark Knight version of Joker scares the shit outta you, you'll be scared of him even more. In a nutshell... After Jacob was finished with the review, he went to the toilet and he saw THAT Southern Belle (and instead of a skull face, she has Joker's face) (though it's obviously someone else). Then the camera proceeds to 'show' how Jacob gets the nasty end against that Ghost Lady, complete with her psycho ripping, her face closeups and her hysterical laugh. Brrr...!
  • Let's Meet the Sweets: Marshmallow Murder. Egads.
  • Nippon Kazauwa! AAAAAAAAAH HA HA HA HA HA HA!
  • Scissors. Or, what Cosmo Jarvis does when he isn't making awesome music. It's a Tom Waits-esque paranoia trip induced by a suicide. Half-narm, half-legitimate horror.
    • Or for that matter, the short film based on his song He Only Goes Out on Tuesadays. It's about the horrors perpetrated on a nine year old boy by his father. What's so awful about this is the fact that he just gets away with it.
  • The ending of the Cunningham Muffins advertisement. The entire thing is funny, with flavors like Choco-choco Chip, Asbestos and Elephant...and then there's the blood-flavored muffin. The blood on the lady's mouth is a really creepy moment.
  • The Tourettes Guy went on one hell of a tirade about a bill his cable company sent him. Near the end of his rant, the camera zooms in on his face until all you can see is one eye giving a mean Death Glare as he made this threat:

Danny: "If I don't get a refund, I'm gonna take you to small claims court and take my business to Comcast, and once you see my dick, YOU WON'T WANT IT! "

  • Fantastic Hey Hey Hey. Picture the uncanny valley crossed with Hell itself.
  • This video. The human-heads on animal bodies and the awfully slow singing is bad enough, but then throw in a distorted bubbly mutating filter over it all...
  • Ronald Will Get You
  • Behold, Monster Clown zombies. Surprised the guy who found Happy Meal didn't click this and post it here?
  • Mockingbird. It starts innocently enough; with a man listening to his wife singing a lullaby to his son. Then the wife walks in through the front door holding groceries; meaning she couldn't possibly be in the room with the kid. Adult Fear much?

Woman: And if that diamond ring gets broke, momma's gonna slit your little throat.

  • Arachnophobes, before using insecticide, be sure to check the label... A guy talks to the camera about a big spider he found in his backyard (cue footage of a pretty big spider) and sprays some insecticide... only he grabs "insect steroids" by accident. Cue CGI spider as big as an entire room and CGI dismemberment.
    • Guess what! There's another!
  • 5 Second Films is mostly comedy; however, that doesn't stop them making the occasional blackened gem such as "Super-Psyched", "Wishbone", or "Untitled". (Untitled actually originally ran around Halloween; they replaced the main page with it, and ran it full screen. So anyone logging in got a face full of rabbit, and that's scarier than it sounds)
    • Appetite starts off with a woman in plaid feeding a man the "last bite" of a meat. Then the camera pans across the shot to reveal she's been feeding him his own skin!
  • "The Winter Stalker". "Hello, Katie...Did you know I've been...watching you?" Yeah, the ending's almost sweet, but DAMN if that Santa isn't horrifying.
  • This horror short called "The Cat With Hands". Uncanny Valley much?
  • The Dr. C and Elwood ADHD educational series of videos, made by Darren Lynn Bousman's former cinematographer Roderick E Stevens -https://www.youtube.com/user/drcandelwood/about
  • Every episode after episode 5 of Fabulous Life of Bratz, especially any episode where someone dies.
  • A mysterious video entitled CLIP_028 was linked in the comments of a Everyman HYBRID video, and it was really scary. For those who are too scared to look, it starts off with some guys in the woods at night. One of the boys goes missing, and the cameraman finds the missing guy's dead body impaled on a pole! As the rest of the guys run away, one guy looks for his phone and gets pulled away by someone. And to top it all off, the cameraman runs outside, shrieks very loudly, and splatters blood on a tree.
  • The time {Munchie} took over Microsoft Sam's YouTube channel "The Worst Movies Ever".
  • The Savannah College of Art and Design put out a few short films that are available on YouTube. In one of them, a little girl is playing outside, bored, when she meets a giant, smiling #2 pencil. She picks up the pencil and draws a cake in the air, and it becomes a cake! She draws a kite in the air, and it becomes a kite! She and her pencil friend run around playing with the things they draw! ...Sounds sweet and whimsical? ...It really isn't.
  • The Cynical Mass remix of Friday as seen here
  • The entire video series of DAYWALT HORROR. There's one about a woman that gets a chair free from Craigslist for her new apartment. As she is sleeping that night, two freakishly horrifying zombies, probably the aunts the previous owner was talking about, climb out of the chair, go over to her, and.....SHE WAKES UP. Phew, that was just a dream, well time to go back to sleep AAHHH!!! That's when the same two things jump up from besides her bed and drag her to the floor screaming. Fade to black. Her body is being dragged down INTO the chair. Fade to black. Two hands come up to "shut" the cushion. Fast forward and the same guy comes to her apartment and answers a phone call. Its someone else wnting the same stinkin' chair, and he tells them they can HAVE it. So this guy knows about what happens with this thing, and he wants it to happen again!
    • That's actually just the tip of the iceberg if you look at some of their other vids. The channel is ran by the people that run FEWDIO. A fact they sometimes use to their advantage, setting up a horrifying situation before it takes a turn for the comical.
    • And they have an ongoing web series called "Camera Obscura". While it's scary as hell and an amazing mix of Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame, it does have a small amount of Nightmare Retardant. For instance, in the very first scene, an old man opens a door with the number 609 in blood on it, and finds a demon with horns and bird beaks for eyes. What does he say? "Alright, let's do this thing..."
      • For your information, the demon was the final "sleeper" (the old man's term for the demons, due to their hibernation) that Clara (the old man's daughter) had to seal within the Camera Obscura (which works similarly to the camera in Fatal Frame), after she sealed the five other demons in previous episodes. There were 6 demons in all. (1) Splinter: The Devourer of Healers, (2) Magoria: The Consumer of The Sickened Mind, (3) The Bag: Killer of Heroes, (4) Mister Hurt: Hunter of Children, (5) Mother: Murderer of Those Who Comfort, and (6) The Bad Place: That Which Eats The Lost. Each fed on different facets of human misery, and all were TERRIFYING!
  • That monster clown in "Terrifier", emphasis on terrifying! It stalks, mutilates, and kills its victims for no other reason than pure sadism. The worse part is that anyone who witnesses it commit its gruesome work will NEVER BE ABLE TO ESCAPE IT!
  • The 1997 short film, Elevated. It manages to be scary even when the monster isn't seen. From Vincenzo Natali, before he directed the similarly claustrophobic Cube.
  • We all know glitches in games can occasionally be creepy. But for the characters in said games? Apparently, for them, glitches are downright TERRIFYING.
    • From the same creators, they made the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie horrendous. Be aware, this is absolutely not for the easily nauseated.
  • So, you thought Coraline was scary? ...It's nothing compared to the real-life version of button-eyes Coraline.
  • And here's how to make someone's fear of Masklophobia worse, and it's only supposed to be a comedy video.
  • This video starts out with a simple video of a kid microwaving his Blackberry cell phone. Unfortunately for him, it sets of one of it's features. Or at least we think it was a feature.
  • Michelle Phan, known mostly for makeup tutorials and rather tame videos, did a Barbie makeup tutorial and HOLY SHIT AAH! The video quickly goes from Barbie as a prom queen to zombie Barbie, with the tutorual first being a basic Barbie look followed by the how-to for the zombie version.
    • Another Michelle Phan makeup tutorial video was posted for Halloween MOTHER OF FUCK! The intro to her creepy zombie child makeup tutorial pulls zero punches. In addition to numerous makeup tutorials for women and her own makeup line in stores, she has the unholy ability to make sure you never sleep again.
  • Lights Out by David F. Sandberg. This is not something you want to watch before going to bed with the lights out.
  • One Last Dive is probably one of the shortest films, but that one minute will still make anyone shudder.
  • Click: Nothing Is Scarier and Dark Is Evil do not make a good combination.
  • There are quite a few microwave videos where someone could have died if they were in the line of fire, or they suffered a minor scare due to a small explosion or backdraft of fire, but in most cases they were fine, just a little spooked. Not so in this video, where a guy foolishly microwaves a lava lamp, but it doesn't explode until the timer stops and he opens the door to check on it. Unlike most "near-death" microwave videos, this person reportedly suffered wax burns and was showered with broken glass, and was VERY lucky that nothing pierced his jugular and perhaps the only reason he didn't lose an eye is due to wearing safety goggles. Not even the airbag video with Jory Caron or the glow stick kid even come close to this.
  • Even a warm and sweet heart can still reveal a knife to the back.
  • REAL DEMONS CAUGHT ON TAPE. It's from the perspective of a man trapped in his bedroom equipped with nothing but a low-quality camera as arms protrude from his ceiling and walls, outstretching their hands to grab him (fingers start slipping under his door at one point). He points the camera at the wall, which then proceeds to open an eye before the camera goes black. The next thing we see is all of the hands gathered to form a creature...that then lunges directly at the camera and roars. Did we mention this video made rounds online due to looking incredibly realistic?
  • THE LAST BROADCAST. If you're a Millennial, it might be hard for you to understand the X Generation's fears about the possibility of World War III. This Alternate History Radio Drama might help. One of the best things about it is how it mingles the prosaic (oldies tunes, radio commercials) with a building sense of terror at the unfolding events. It starts out slow, but stick with it; it gets better.
    • On a similar note, this YouTube channel consists of a series of uploads that cover fictional/mockup broadcasts of a military confrontation between NATO and Russia if it were to happen today. Much like The Last Broadcast, each video starts of with coverage of a small skirmish between NATO and Russian forces. Then as the video progresses it slowley gets more out of control...
  • There's a channel on YouTube called Video Bakery that mostly makes humorous short parodies. But sometimes you do wonder what the hell was going through their heads when they made certain videos. This one, "Button Sweaters", is as hilarious as it is creepy. It starts out pretty normal, with two guys talking about their sweater business, then they get to the parking lot and... well, things fall apart quickly. Let's just say it doesn't end well. Then there's this one, called "Clowning Around" which is exactly what it sounds like (really, don't click it if you're afraid of clowns.) While Button Sweaters is still funny in some ways, Clowning Around is just creepy through and through. The guys from Video Bakery themselves admit that sometimes they just want to creep you out.
  • Recently, a video began circulating on the Internet of a bear attacking a deer, gnawing on the back of its neck while it lets out bleating screams of agony. You can even hear the sounds of the bear chewing into the deer.
  • This video of a few teenagers going around in an abandoned school recording stuff...until they end up recording a headless ghost walking right towards them, but, the thing is, they don't freak out and continue on like they didn't even see him and creepy crying/chanting/long groans of pain are heard through the rest of the video but the boys apparently don't hear it. Supposedly, they only saw the ghost and heard the voice after they saw their captured footage.
    • The fact that everything is low quality is much creepier, as editing the sounds and the ghost in would be very difficult while keeping the video's quality.
    • The "crying/chanting/groans" are actually the nearby mosque. The video is from the Mid-East and it's just the call to prayer, not ghost-groanings. That said; The headless figure is still creepy.
  • "Pizza Time remastered new on Nickelodeon" is equal parts nauseatingly disturbing and flat-out disturbing. It has people dressed in inflatable suits as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and circle jerking onto a pizza (imagine Overdrawn at the Blood Bank but with semen instead of blood), cutting a turtle's head in half (although it's clearly a watermelon), and gouging its eye out before continuing to stick fingers and knives into the eye hole.
  • You think Mortal Kombat fatalities are gruesome? Try imagining them in real life. A guy brutally murders his friends by brutally beating up one before pressing his face on a grill and ripping his head off, and forcing the second one partially through a sawblade before manually ripping their head out. Then the guy murders an innocent child by spearing him through the chest and ripping his heart out. After this, the guy gets impaled through the chest by the kid's grandma before he gets his whole intestine taken out, with which he gets flogged. After that, the video saves the grisliest for last when the grandma is killed by "Black Scorpion" in a truly horrific display: he destroys her eyes and rips her jaw off. Serial Escalation of the most chilling variety. And all because his friend said that the new Mortal Kombat game was shit.
  • There's a video on Live Leaks entitled "Boiling Water Challenge", a truly warped parody of the ice bucket challenge. The Brazilian man doing this is clearly quite disturbed as you can tell by his behaviour. He does an update five days later showing the burns he got from the water. Laughing and talking like a maniac the whole time. Look it up at your own risk.
  • This is a "paranormal video" showing a man in his house. Toward the end, he finds a shadowy crying figure in the corner of the room, and closes the door. When he opens it again, the expectation is that she disappeared. Nope. When he opens the door, she's standing just a few feet away from it.
  • Anything made by FEWDIO Horror. Scariest? "Cleansed".
  • Quality Meats: Flesh Straight Jacket by Michael Taflove. Yikes.
  • These three videos. PERIOD . If that's what Ronald McDonald looks like in Japan, you shudder to think what The Burger King is like there.
  • This short film "Luis" operates under both True Art Is Incomprehensible and Surreal Horror.
  • Still Life. It's not too bad (compared to the rest of this page) when you watch it, but wait until the next time you see a mannequin.
  • This delightful fan-made music video of "Minnie the Moocher."
  • This YouTube video on forklift operation safety. As a way of scaring potential drivers into following safety procedures, many of the images are forklift related deaths and accidents that are extremely gory and hard to watch. Don't watch unless you have a barf bag in hand. Okay, sing it with me now!

Bout how to avoid an accident

How not to get killed by a forklift! Ole!

  • If The Joker has real-life counterpart, this man (the video in the link is re-uploaded by someone else, the original account who created and uploaded the video has been deleted) might be the the closest candidate. To explain: The popular theory is that the guy is believed to be responsible for disappearance of Maura Murray. In the anniversary of her disappearance in 2012, the guy uploaded this video of him laughing continuously, uncontrollably, and provocatively, ended it with "Happy Anniversary". It's unknown whether he's responsible with the disappearance or just random pranker, though. Either way, he's creepy.
  • This video about a mysterious person in Plague Doctor costume is uploaded in 2015 Halloween. As if a plague doctor mask is not creepy enough, it's popularly theorized that the binary code title of the video is translated as "death". Beneath the code is another encrypted message, which reads, "You have one year or less". And this is one of explanation and theory about what the hell it may really mean. Is it a death threat? A halloween prank? A bioterrorism threat? Or a clever viral marketing campaign for a thriller movie Inferno ? Nobody is sure.
  • Girl Goes Psycho During Makeup Tutorial. This is a video about a girl who, you guessed it, goes psycho during a makeup tutorial. However, it's the execution that's terrifying. It starts out as a normal makeup tutorial with live feed of a web browser on the left side of the screen. But halfway through the video, the feed suddenly stops as the girl stops talking and looks forward with a sudden look of fear in her eyes... And then she slams her head into the table in front of her again and again and again until you can see blood leak out.
  • "Cake" by Robert Benfer easily deserves a mention, which involves a poisonous chocolate cake and Brain eating the cake anyway despite his friend's warnings. While it starts off relatively humorous like Benfer's other videos, it gets very horrific about 2:46 in. It's not for those who are squeamish.
  • Chainsawsuit Original's two Local58 shorts: "Contingency" and "Weather Service". You will never look at "end of broadcast day" or EAS announcements the same way, ever again.
    • "You Are On The Fastest Available Route" will make you think twice about ever trusting your GPS again. "Make a U-turn. Your destination is behind you."
  • Sammie made a heartbreaking yet inspiring Tear Jerker video about her struggles with depression and anxiety. The nightmare fuel is her rant in the middle about how her therapist failed her. It's unnerving and scary to see the normally sweet, kind, upbeat, and positive Sammie get so angry. At first it's a Tranquil Fury with each word having the impact of a dagger but builds into a crescendo of Suddenly Shouting for about two minutes. It's actually downright terrifying the way she's yelling and unleashing years worth of pent up rage at the camera. Yikes! I'm sure you'll be glad you're not her therapist after that.
  • Glam and Gore is a makeup channel that straddles beauty and horror FX makeup...and while frequently Visual Effects of Awesome, the horror side gets scary.
    • This video, even after it was revealed to be faked is still pretty terrifying. If you want to know, It starts out as pretty normal live stream, until things start getting weird. Eventually, Mykie walks away from the computer for a few minutes and the camera is left filming an open door to a dark room. And then you can barely see a face in the dark before it fades away. The stream runs on a little longer, then ends. Nothing Is Scarier, indeed.
    • This video is a list of Halloween costume ideas, which starts off with fairly common and harmless costumes. Then the Pop Art Girl costume gets red eyes, the Deer costume gets shot with an arrow, and the pretenses of these being cute costumes are completely over, going from 0 to 100 very quickly afterward. The "costumes" afterward are: a pirate who reveals a pattern of holes under his eyepatch, from which spider legs emerge, a doctor removing their own organs, a slasher-victim escaping a killer, a mental patient full of spiders, and a Monster Clown that has many horrifying faces and very unnerving behavior. The last costume? Donald Trump.
  • Aldo Jones' parody of the trailer for Venom (2018). Sure it's pretty funny for the most part, but that moment where Eddie Brock looks in the mirror and sees the corrupted Peter Parker from Spiderman 3 staring back at him and saying he's trash right before he's thrown across the bathroom is pretty unsettling.
  • Metalosis Maligna , by Floris Kaayk. A fake disease caused by the introduction of badly adjusted metal implants into the human body, where these same implants start springing out in tendrils that rupture skin and transform the human body into complete Body Horror. Very NSFW.
  • This is a fairly old video that was very popular on Youtube back in 2008. It features two friends pranking another friend constantly with his fear of aliens, until everything goes wrong when the real aliens appear. It's how the alien is introduced that makes it terrifying. As we're about to see the friend get pranked for the third time, there is a sudden loud noise that interrupts the prank. As the door is opened, we see an alien standing right next to Chad on the bed, which the camera zooms in on, only for it to look back at it very suddenly. To top it all off, when the room is investigated again, the aliens show up right in the doorway, with its face right in the camera! While the video is obviously fake, just look in the comment section and you'll see that a lot of people got disturbed by this video back in 2008, thanks to the fairly good effects and very effective sound design.
    • By the same creator, we have Mountain Devil Prank Fails Horribly . The premise is the same, with two friends scaring another with his fear of mountain devils, but this time, shit hits the fan incredibly quickly. First of all, the mountain devils themselves look straight out of Silent Hill as they were 3D rendered. Second of all, the loud screeches they make are incredibly scary, specially with the way that it's implemented early in the video by having Nothing Is Scarier used as they go searching for their lost friend. And third of all, the final jumpscare, where the mountain devil crashes straight through the windshield and kills the cameraman, with a Smash to Black? Yeah, that also sent many kids hiding under their desks back in 2010.
  • This fake Fire Kills PIF, which was often mistaken for a real one. It's a home video-styled ad that opens on a man sleeping in a chair, with a cigarette between his fingers, all the while an (off-screen) television is on. Throughout the duration of the video, the camera focuses on the still-burning end of the cigarette in the man's hand, which slowly starts to sag, threatening to fall off. Just when it does, the video instantly cuts to a giant skull surrounded in flames that lunges towards the screen and screams at you. It's terrifying even if you know it's coming, and needless to say, you won't want to watch the ending with anything other than a low volume.
  • "My house walk-through": It starts out as a tour through an ordinary, if humble and somewhat rundown, Japanese house in the middle of a stormy night, and the video description even assures that "This is not horror video", but things quickly start getting weird: the tour becomes an endless loop, with the state of the house deteriorating more and more each consecutive walkthrough. Adding to this is the Dissonant Serenity of the subtitles, as the narrator seems entirely oblivious, even when they come upon the rotting corpses of their long-dead grandparents. If it proves to be too intense, the creator also provided a making of, which is pointedly set to comically cheery music.
  • Itsudemo soko ni... McDonald Translation Always there for you... Mcdonald's These are a series of fake McDonalds commercials from a Japanese sketch series in which Ronald McDonald opens a locked door from the outside, calls a girl from a dark alley, hides under a girl's bed (similar to the character of Martin Lawrence from College Road Trip (2008) while sneaking into some girl's dorm of the college in the middle of the night), and escapes from an unseen thing. The four fake commercials end with a creepy distorted voice saying the above slogan.
    • Taken as a whole, all four of the fake commercials seem to tell a complete story. A stalker dressed up as Ronald McDonald attempts to break into a woman's apartment, harasses her at work, and finally hides under her bed (while being completely visible to us and the woman) and presumably murders her. Why else would he be running after all?

    Websites

  • Numerous websites we shall not name, where viewers can indulge in every single fetish art known, most of which are Not Safe for Work, and many are Not Safe For Sanity. We repeat: we are not going to link to these sites.
  • The WTF Subreddit on Reddit is a growing library full of these.
  • Mortasheen, Bogleech's attempt at making a Mons series. First off, the author apparently has a thing for horrifying parasites that reproduce through body horror, such as the Septiclown, Scumbat, Tachinoid, Fevile and Ragamuffet to name a few. Secondly, there are the Devilbirds, birds whom were subjected to negative psychic energy as eggs and feeding on those energies in the most horriffic manner possible, like driving people to murderous rage (Wrath); causing them to go insane from fear (Bonnagander), stealing their bodies (Envy), making them attached to a blood-red pearl that sucks their minds away and enslaves them to it (Greed), to name a few. Oh, and there is a whole class of Eldritch Abominations, including a tentacle rape monster. And most of the monsters in the "Zombie" class result from zombies attempting to copulate.
  • GameFAQs will occasionally have the front page themed for a recent game. Once, the "theme" was Condemned 2, and the home-page has a decapitated, fanged clown-head and a dead baby plastered all over the place. Who the HELL decided that this was a good idea?
  • Rotten.com contains graphic, real photos of horrific deaths and injuries, such as actual photos of the famous, gruesome Black Dahlia murder.
    • The Black Dahlia murder was the murder of Elizabeth Short in 1947. She was found, by a mother walking with a three-year-old girl no less, cut in half at the waist and with her mouth cut open to each ear. She had been deliberately posed and had apparently been forced to eat feces before dying. The killer, who has never been identified, was upset that the case was starting to slip from the media's attention, called the local newspaper and mailed them the contents of her purse. Creepy.
  • There is a website where people wrote out various alternate history scenarios. Several of them were frightening, but the one that takes the biscuit the most basically had North Korea nuking the whole world and everybody dying, which was horrific enough, except that the writer described the Mars Rover Opportunity continuing to explore Mars and beaming back data of past life on Mars to a dead Earth.
  • The Speculative Dinosaur Project. An Alternate History that asks the question "what if the asteroid had missed and dinosaurs had continued to evolve to the modern day?" The answer, earth becomes a Death World. In Our timeline plants got a break of a few million years between the dinosaurs and the first large mammals. On this world they didn't, so there are many kinds of plants that contain deadly neuro-toxins that can kill you in seconds just by touching them. The classic dinosaur predators continued to evolve of course, giving us creatures like the Abelisaurs (convergently similar to T-Rex), the "Ninja" (an aptly named stealthy killer that descends from raptors), and the Imperial Saber Tyrant, the largest predator on earth that combines traits of Tyrannosaurs and saber cats. The giant crocodiles are still around, as are new groups like "cutter crocs" "cruncher crocs" and "croclions". There are many kinds of "near birds" still around, many of whom have sharp teeth. One of them sprays toxic puke when threatened. There are also many kinds of "true birds" that are just as bad. The "gobbler" is a lot like our timeline's terror birds, the "city finches" live in eusocial colonies (like ants, bees, mole rats) and swarm anything that threatens them, (killing even an Abelisaur in seconds), carnivorous "Penguins of death" in Antarctica (including one species called the "piranhakeet" that swarm giant squid-whales tearing them apart from the inside-out), and to top in all off, there are entire ecosystems of fish, parasites, and tadpoles living inside the colons of some dinosaurs, and a species off bird called the "rectal probe" that eat them.
  • Hyperbole and a Half, by Allie Brosh, is an illustrated web blog that nine times out of ten is absolutely hilarious. This, however, is apparently the missing tenth time. It begins as an innocuous enough tale, involving the blogger as a four-year-old child and the cake her mother made for a relative's birthday party. This lasts approximately as long as the second panel. It only gets worse from there. Especially jarring due to severe Mood Whiplash, as the Jacob's Ladder-esque drawings are interspersed with perfectly ordinary narration. Christ.
  • This interactive website about the Salem Witch Trials. Which is also part of at least one school's canon.
  • Some of the things on this very site, including the pictures for the various Nightmare Fuel pages. Hell, even some of the things outside of the pages, like the picture of the demonic Kermit that was once the picture for the Evil Twin page.
    • Creepy Changing Painting deserves a special mention here since some mad genius made it a Self-Demonstrating Article. Never has the Mona Lisa been so terrifying.
  • Exit Mundi. This website is dedicated to listing off some of the various ways that Earth could get destroyed. Some of the scenarios mentioned include the big crunch, epidemic diseases, nuclear wars, and supervolcanoes.
  • Plane Crash Info. As the title suggests, this website details plane crashes that have happened from around the world. The site even has a section which holds mp3 transcription of passengers screaming and panicking just before their planes crash. Word to the wise: If you're gonna fly on an airplane, stay far away from this site.
  • The Skyway Bridge website is an encylopedia of the many people who have tried to commit suicide by jumping off of the Skyway Bridge. Even if the site tries to discourage viewers from killing themselves, it is pretty disturbing for a site to show how many people have jumped from the bridge.
  • The Texas Department of Criminal Justice isn't too bad, since it just details the titular department of Texas' government. The site does however have a creepy section which lets you listen to the final words of those on death row.
  • The defuncted Shaye Saint John's website is a truly disturbing website in spite of its crude design. The website has a lot of pages, all of which have creepy images and/or strange audio. One page has a paragraph of Shaye talking about herself above a large number of links and disturbing gifs, while another page has Shaye talk about some of the things that she is scared of. There is also a page that hosts a series of short films starring Shaye Saint John. View the archived site at your own risk.
  • A certain website (as shown by Web Pages That Suck owner Vincent Flanders in the linked video) is this because of one really bad choice in background sound effects. Why? Because the site (about guns) had the sounds of someone firing a gun playing automatically as the page was loaded. Basically, imagining loading a new tab, then having the sound of someone firing a barrage of gun shots from absolutely nowhere. As shown in the video, the guy viewing actually leapt underneath his desk because of it.
  • This Person Does Not Exist is a website that demonstrates an AI's ability to draw "photos" of people who don't exist. Naturally, you should expect plenty of Uncanny Valley with that in mind...when it actually works. When it doesn't, you'll see plenty of horrific images of warped people that occupy a gap between Nightmare Face and Body Horror.
  • The infamous Japanese Shock Site "Fancy Island" (also known as "ふぁんしーあいらんど") seems to be a normal cute pastel themed website at the title page, but when you open one of the links/pages in it, it will show you some horrifying Jump Scares of creepy faces on inhuman figures that cross the Uncanny Valley. Search it at your own risk.

  • Also from X-Entertainment: There was an article about a Teddy Ruxpin toy that a girl took to church with her and the toy suddenly became possessed- sprouting devil horns, eyes turning red and speaking in a demonic voice. Now that's a literally a Demonic Dummy!
  • The audio web series Zoolaplex is home to pretty disturbing imagery and situations for a show that's mostly a parody of consumer America. Probably one of the most notable examples is Charles Wickman, a son of old money and one of the most powerful and malicious people in the city the eponymous cineplex is in, on top of being a Straw Misogynist and a bigot in every single way imaginable. His very first appearance involves him opting out of paying for cab fare by revealing he knows the driver's name, his family, and his legal status in the United States and threatening to destroy his family's life by having the INS called, specifically drawing attention to the cab driver's daughter and what would happen if she was torn from the home she knew for six years. And the worst thing? When the cab driver drove away, he called the INS on his family anyways For the Evulz. He also shows he's willing to sexually extort one of the main characters in order to get leverage for the location of the real target of one of his infamous harassment campaigns, specifically the most innocent member of the entire main cast, and continues to destroy and shatter lives on the side without even really trying.
    • Other terrifying characters in particular include Norville Greenandbacher from The Montenegrin Job who's actually well-meaning in trying to get better rights for his union but his words are somehow so impactful that his entire union degrades into a murderous campaign of terror across the city, Ollie from Happy Hour, and Drake Moran's father who committed a murder-suicide that left Drake the only member of his immediate family alive.
  • This fanart of an alternative demise of Zira, there she didn't fell off the cliff but got clawed and bled to death, but not before going out with a laugh. After seeing this fanart, you'll thank God and the Disney suits for not coming up with this idea, 'cause it would put Light Yagami's Villainous Breakdown to shame.

    • After that, however, it's revealed that the entire LP was the result of an attempt to teach Ludicolo the move Dream Eater (which is impossible) Gone Horribly Wrong. Sure, it was All Just A Nightmare, but it was still a nightmare that forced Foxy into a mental hospital.

  • A Let's Play of The Path by thevoiceofdogSA isn't too bad...he narrates each girl's journey like a fairytale, and has some nice Black Comedy jokes thrown in...but then he plays Ginger's route. After the seemingly-happy playdate with a girl in red, the LPer starts talking about how what a nice ending this was—only to start screaming and panicking when he sees Ginger shuffling towards the house. The video is slowed down, distorting the sounds, the guy is screaming so loud that it warps his voice on the microphone...And just his dialogue is creepy too. " GINGER! DON'T GO IN THE HOUSE, PLEASE! GINGER, CAN YOU HEAR ME? IF YOU GO INTO THE HOUSE I WON'T BE ABLE TO SAVE YOU! GINGEEEEER!" And then after the final animation, where there was once a calm and neutral "The End," there is now a broken and horrified whisper of "It's never going to end...is it?"

Percy would go over the top however and say creepy lines such as "Isn't mass murder GREAT?" and "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go take my pills.". Many fans said Percy was creepy and wished him dead. They all soon regretted this when DCE, for Halloween, made This.

Percy Positive: Hello everyone. My name is Zombie Positive, and I love those organs in your nice warm bodies.

  • Arch Oboler, creator of the horror/suspense radio show Lights Out, issued an album called Drop Dead! An Exercise in Horror. One of the audio plays in this is called "The Dark," about a strange black mist that turns people inside out. Never, even in Customs, will a rubber glove ever sound so dire.
  • For that matter old time radio horror as a format. You have to go into it with the right state of mind since the overly melodramatic style and genre defining "over explaining things for the audience" can quickly turn them into Narm or Nightmare Retardant if you're not in the right mood, but go into some of them right state of mind and you will never be creeped out as much. Many websites have MP3 files of many of the old shows which have long since fell out of copyright like Lights Out, Quiet Please, Inner Sanctum, and the Mysterious Traveler.

  • The viral marketing for 2010's The Last Exorcism included a short online video that was circulated on chat sites like Chat Roulette and Facebook. In this clip, a young woman teases the other person chatting by unbuttoning the top of her blouse and smiling seductively, then she puts her head down for a moment. When she puts her head back up, her eyes roll into the back of her head, her mouth opens (revealing sharp fangs) and she screams as she lunges at the camera - and again right after the screen cuts to black. The worst part was that you could be a kid surfing innocently and just happen to come across this clip while randomly searching for people to chat with.
    • ... although the shock value for the child would probably be lessened after the fifty people masturbating they just sifted through.
  • On the Ask Ms. Fortune blog from Tumblr, when Skullgirls character Ms. Fortune was asked how she felt about Double, she said she wasn't too worried about her and seemed confident in fighting her. Next thing you know, she's not quite herself.
  • The Wikipedia page for Encyclopedia Horrifica used to be pretty creepy, with the hidden skull gif that would rotate and stare at you after a couple of seconds. Of course, it was justifiably taken out by an administrator.
  • Back when TV Tropes had the Fetish Fuel and Troper Tales there were people who would tell us about their lives and what turned them on. Crazygogg's video can show us just how messed up some of the people on this site were to the point of getting removed. What makes it disturbing is that these people were sincere. No offense to any troper, but we really do not need to hear about your fetishes.
    • All of Crazygogg's contain massive helpings of Squick, Nightmare Fuel, and more things that will probably turn you against your fellow tropers. Don't watch any of them unless you already hate your fellow tropers.
  • This YouTube contributor's interpretation of the scene in which SpongeBob asked Squidward if he liked krabby patties [3].
  • There was once a GIF spread around on Tumblr that showed a normal-looking chick smiling, only to zoom in on her face and eerily distort it, making her eyes go sheer white. The effect was that of a normal woman suddenly turning into a ghostly creature and rushing at you.
  • This video is.....odd. It starts off with two guys doing the Fusion Dance from DBZ and end up "fusing" into another person. The way this person acts (and looks for that matter) is disturbing and completely disconcerting
  • In May 2014, a Vine became popular featuring a man wondering humorously who was running the water in his bathroom if he was alone. He then opens the door to find a bunny taking a bath in the sink. The bunny then jumped at the camera while the guy screamed. A pretty harmless Jump Scare with some Nightmare Retardant in the form of a cute bunny, right? Unless you watch it on a higher resolution and realize that that is an actual dead bunny rigged up on a string. We will not link to this.
  • Invoked in Becoming YouTube during the fictional "CheekTV" segment in "What YouTube Isn't."

Crabstickz: "I just remember being really scared of the theme tune, when the theme tune came on I used to hide behind the sofa."

  • The Anglo/American – Nazi War (available here) is a World War II Alternate History where the Third Reich is able to defeat the USSR by 1943, causing the Western Allies to sign a ceasefire with the Reich, and so the Nazis are given free reign to put into action all the plans they had for occupied Europe in Real Life, and the author of this scenario pulls absolutely no punches in depicting just how insane and genocidal these plans were. The population of European Jews, Roma and other "undesirables" are almost entirely liquidated (the number of surviving European Jews by the war's end in 1960 is roughly two thousand, out of millions), and millions of Russians and Poles are enslaved and either worked to death in labour camps and farms or conscripted as Cannon Fodder. Hostilities are resumed when the Nazis launch a nerve gas attack on Britain which results in the deaths of 50,000 civilians and the deaths of the entire British royal family. This alternate Operation Overlord results in an absolutely brutal no-hold-barred war where basically the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride through Europe and throw a party - the British launch anthrax attacks on German cities which render them almost entirely uninhabitable for centuries, the Americans do the same with atom bomb strikes and massive bombing campaigns, and the increasingly desperate and irrational Nazis begin using gas attacks, conscripting Child Soldiers to use as suicide bombers and berserker storm-troopers, and systematically destroying cultural and artistic works and civilian infrastructure in a massive orgy of violence, topping it off with the complete annihilation of Paris. The Allies win the war by 1960, but with overwhelming might and massive losses on both sides, and international geopolitics are massively shifted - with no USSR, there's no Red Scare or Cold War, most of Eastern Europe is entirely depopulated and in anarchy, most of Western Europe basically resembles Mad Max or Fallout, and the Western democracies are so horrified by the scale and destruction of the war that they become a bunch of cynical nanny-state dictators who adopt a Disproportionate Retribution policy to any wars or unsanctioned space launches anywhere in the world and are willing to inflict massive civilian casualties to avoid anything that might lead to World War III, as they bomb Stettin from orbit and kill 275,000 people because a right-wing uprising in the city is rebelling to reunite Germany.
  • Top 20 Unintentionally Disturbing Kids' Characters From Around The World is a 25-minute 'celebration' of accidentally terrifying puppets from children's TV shows, serving as an ideal introduction to the nightmare fuel concept as originally intended. And now, there's a sequel.
    • The uploader, blameitonjorge, has a whole selection of videos related to the concept of Nightmare Fuel. These include:
  • If it isn't humorous, anything coming from "Grand Channel" channel.
    • Even the funny ones have some horror on it. Banned North Korean Mcdonalds Advert has Queffwey the horse doing an extremely loud neigh. It's still hilarious though.
  • This video describing what happens when you fall into a black hole. As if black holes aren't scary enough as is.
  • BuzzFeed Nifty has this DIY that gives ideas on how to spice up plastic drawers. For the third idea, we see a pair of hands heat up a toy giraffe with a hair dryer, slice it in half with a knife, and glue the front half to the drawer to use as a handle. Commenters have already made it known how unsettling this is.
  • The Birdhouse Motel Residence. It's only a 30 second clip of a supposed phone recording accompanied by a benign-looking business card but it's terrifying to imagine what it might mean...
  • The 500 Million Year Button. To sum it up, two friends come across an opportunity to get 1 million yen each time they pressed a button. Pressing this button would make the one who did it live through 500 million years in an endless void of absolutely nothing, all by themselves, where they would not die or even be able to sleep. However, once those 500 million years are over, they are returned to their physical state, with the same age as they had when they pushed the button, completely unscathed and all their memory of those long, painful 500 million years are wiped, making it seem like they really did nothing at all. After seeing his friend push the button twice, our protagonist goes for his turn. What happens next can only be described as philosophically horrifying.
    • What really hammers the nail in is the ending, where the protagonist ends up pushing the button 16 times in a row.
  • The Backrooms. If you ever were to somehow step out of reality, you end up in an endless maze of "rooms", that seemingly repeat to no end. There is no known clear way to get out, time there is basically non-existant, it stretches out for longer than a country and, to top it all off, there will be something there with you, somewhere, searching for you.
    • Here's a terrifying video detailing the horror that are The Backrooms even further.
  • The gretchengrundler.com signon from 2003 is 2 minutes and 45 seconds of pure unadultrated horror. It starts up with a walk through an empty hallway, accompanied by a piano rendition of O Fortuna. About 1 minute in, inhuman creatures start appearing. At a minute and 45 seconds, the creatures start attacking the camera. At 2 minutes, the words "THE MORNING SUN HAS VANQUISHED THE HORRIBLE NIGHT" appear. Finally, the gretchengrundler.com logo appears at 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
  • Before he started playing Minecraft, Japanese male surreal artist nana825763's works were this, for containing lots of grotesque and disturbing imagery and content.
  • Almost anything created by Australian twins YouTuber RackaRacka, for containing lots and lots of bloody and gory content as well as lots of disturbing imagery.
  • Japanese claymation artist takena's videos are both this and a work of art, for showing a bunch of graphic content and grotesque imagery.
  • "Lights are off" is a TikTok / Instagram account that basically runs on this trope. They usually involve a cameraman (first person point of view) running afoul of bizarre looking eldritch beings that suddenly charge towards him, or teleport near him.
