Can you try a cable instead of WiFi for the TV?

Do the playback issues always occur at the same point in the affected films or or more random?

Not sure what your reference to 5G is but WiFi is a only one device can talk at a time. Your tv might be capable of 170Mbps but it also might not be able to sustain that especially of other devices start using the WiFi. This combined with a particular high bitrate could cause buffering issues (if you have tried other stuff).

I would also try wired even if if only temporarily to see. Wired doesn't get interference and even them 100Mbps port will be fine, most UHD streams with the exception of the top one are below that one.

What are the size of the files/bitrate you are dealing with?

My money would be on the chipset used in the zd9, also possibly the read write performance with storage and the RAM.

Both Kodi and Plex like to cache part of the file, with kodi its to the RAM, it could be getting full due to the bitrate, or the chipset itself cannot handle the continuous read and writes. the Mediatek SoC in older Sony TVs have been known to be underpowered

agree with @ChuckMountain 100mbps Ethernet is likely to offer more consistent performance than wireless even if it's lacking in peak throughput

If it's the capability of the TV that might be an issue would introducing a box such as Nvidia Shield, apple 4K etc. and running the app on there solve the issue ?

yes it would mate, wired through gigabit lan will play these files with no bother. With the Shield you will also have the familiarity of android TV ( the Speed of just navigating the ui. will probably be an eye opener)

When it comes to movies, the reported bitrate for the file in plex will be the average based on a calculation (video length x file size) so it is likely the parts in movies which are causing issues will be even higher

Still try wired first, but if the issues persist and UHD rips are important then you would be better with a dedicated box imo

Agree with @chopples, a dedicated box is always going to give benefits in terms of performance and potential future capabilities. Your wallet might be a bit lighter though ;)

As it is the same place in the films, then something is bottlenecking and it is a process of elimination normally. If you have a spare ethernet cable or can jerry-rig something a quick test would allow you to rule that out before potentially spending any money.

Am also assuming that the file plays ok on a PC?
